IDEAS AND RESEARCH.
PRE-PRODUCTION PAPERWORK.
Evaluation.
My contribution towards our social action project was drawing the storyboard to show our planning and how we would film the social experiment. I was also the camera operator when filming our social experiment and I got my friend involved in the social because she is of a different race.
Our final product was completely different to our original intentions. Originally we were going to do a hidden camera social experiment and get actors to act out scenarios in public to see how others react, if they would get involved in the situation or just observe what is happening. Instead our final outcome was interviews asking people if racism is still a problem in today's society and if white people suffer as much racism as black people. We also did a social experiment to see if people would judge others based on their skin colour. The experiment involved my Indian friend who was willing to stand in town holding a piece of paper saying "Do you judge be differently because of the colour of my skin?". We asked people to write down their thoughts or opinions on the paper to see if people are still racist today.
Our product fits with our target audience of teens and over because we interviewed people of our own age group (Teens/young adults) and when filming the social experiment it was mostly adults contributing their thoughts on racism. This worked well as we had opinions from different age groups.
We followed previous techniques from our research based on other racism products. We used the interview style technique with one person behind the camera asking questions and one person directly in front of the camera so the focus is all on them. I think this technique worked well as it made our final product look professional and well planned.
The aesthetic qualities were that the background on the interviews were all similar and the pieces of film all fitted together well. The music over the top of the of the social experiment scene works well as the footage is sped up . The music and sped up footage shows the time passing by.
The impact of our social action showed that racism is becoming less of a problem in today's society. The results of the social experiment showed that most people would not judge someone based on the colour of their skin but only one person said " It depends on the person". Which shows that they might judge someone depending on their skin colour and who they are as a person.
If we were to film this again the only thing I would have changed or done differently would be interviewing more people as all the people we interviewed were white and male. We did not have any females or black people being interviewed which I feel made the product a little biased as their were not opinions from both genders or races.
