Inspirational Films.
The Happening -: Starts off as what Philadelphia thought was a terrorist attack where people were releasing toxic gasses into the atmosphere making the public commit suicide. Elliot and Alma escape to the countryside where they meet people who run a garden centre, these people believe that its not a terrorist attack but the plants releasing the gasses causing these happenings and the more people around the plants will trigger the release of the toxins.
I think this film is inspirational because unlike most horror films it doesn't follow the most common story lines or characters. It does not involve the paranormal or the superhuman characters like vampire and werewolves. This film's story line follows the environmental effects on the world and in this case the plants are cast as the prime killer because of the deadly toxins forcing people to commit suicide. What is most inspirational to me is the fact that their was no hero or evil character in the film, which is different to any other horror film I have seen.

Drag Me To Hell - : A loan officer, Christine Brown, is stalked and assaulted after refusing a loan for an elderly woman named Mrs Ganush. Christine manages to fight off the elderly woman but her coat button is removed during the attack and a curse is set upon her.
This film is inspirational because the curse is set upon an object in this case a button instead of the main character. This object which is cursed will bring bad luck and hauntings to the owner of the object.

Insidious - : The Lambert family move into their new house and a few days later their son, Dalton has an accident in the attic. The next day Dalton can't be woken, his parents take him to hospital only be told their son has fallen into a coma. Given instructions on how to care for Dalton at home while is still in a coma strange things start to happen around the house and when a demonic voice is heard on the baby monitor the family decide to call a demon investigator. At first the family thought it was their house that was haunted but they are soon told "It's not the house that is haunted, it's your son".
I think this film is inspirational because instead of the house being haunted its a young child who is experiencing hauntings and demons in his sleep. This film was also very interesting as it focused a lot on the subject of outer body experience.

Shaun Of The Dead - : Life isn't too good for Shaun, still living with his best friend Ed and recently dumped by his girlfriend Liz, Shaun promises to get his life back together but this also happened to be on the day of a zombie apocalypse. With a cricket bat and his best friend by his side, Shaun goes out to save the people he loves and takes them to the safest place he can think of...the pub.
This films is inspirational because it is a comedy horror, mocking most zombie films. I find it most inspirational to see how a horror film can also be a comedy film at the same time, where the audience can experience both thrill and laughter at the same time.

Characters.
Female characters-: Most horror films have a female victim who are usually portrayed as helpless and need protection. Usually in horror films its the attractive young blond girl who will be the first victim. This type of character is normally portrayed to have a dumb and annoying personality.
Hysterical Character-: This character is typically female. The characters actions can build suspense in the audience. Their actions normally result in being left behind or being saved until the end and then killed.
Non - Believer-: This role is often played by a male who refuses to believe what is happening and thinks others are over reacting. Their personality tends to be over confident which can sometimes lead to them being one of the first to be killed out of a group.
Hero-: This character is usually the strong male but most recently films have had a strong female lead as a hero. This character tends to be the bravest of all the characters and is good at comforting the less brave characters.
Evil Character-: This character can be any form. from a serial killer, a vampire, zombie, demonic possessed person or ghost. Usually thought of as inhuman because they don't react to injuries in the same way as a normal person would. The evil character has the biggest impact on the audience making them fear for other character and also hold the suspense throughout the film.
