Pre - Production:
Light projection experiment/ test shots
Evaluation for music video:
My role: In this production, my role was camera operator. I was responsible for how the music video looked, getting a variety of different shots to make the video look aesthetically appealing. I kept the director up to date with the shots I was taking and following their instructions and the story board.
Target Audience: Our target audience for this music video is teenagers and people who listen to indie music because we know that if they listen to the song, they are most likely to watch the video. Also, the band ‘Atlanta House’ appeals to teenagers and young adults because of the indie/rock genre they have.
The Band: We got in touch with a small band who were happy to let us film a music video for their single “Girls Like You”. We kept the band updated with our ideas and what we have filmed. Atlanta House are a five-piece indie/rock band who are influenced by popular bands like, The Arctic Monkeys and Catfish and the Bottle Men. The band began building a reputation in the local music scene and have go on to release their own single “Girls Like You” at the end of august in 2016.
What didn’t go so well: Our lessons were disrupted a lot of the time which meant we couldn’t get on and film our music video during lesson time. This lead to us having to find a time when everyone was around to film but that didn’t go well as we all couldn’t find a day to get together and film the music video. We were originally planning to film in the February holidays but some of us were not available so we decided to film after college hours. Another problem we face was during the powder paint shoot, the actors were unavailable so we resorted to using a member of our team in the music video, but this proved to be a success in the end.
What went well: Our production turned out to be very successful. We all managed to work together cooperatively as a team and complete the video. Before filming we did a test shoot on light projection to see if this idea would work and look effective. This shoot proved to work very well so we went on to film the music video with this idea. The powder paint shoot also proved to be successful and we managed to get some colour and artistic shots. The editing was successful as the shots were edited together to fit the time of the beat and shots followed together quite nicely.
What we could improve on: In our music video, some scenes are sped up and I feel it didn’t really work well and there are more clips of the light projection than powder paint which makes the video look a little uneven.
Overall: Overall I feel our music video is quite successful despite all the complications we faced.
