What is a Single Camera Production
A single camera production is shot using one camera and are normally for low budget films or tv shows. Each scene is shot individually and involves the process of moving the camera each time to get a different shot and new angles. This can also involve a lot of editing, for example if characters were having a conversation, as its a single camera production they would have to keep moving the same camera each time to get a different shot of the characters each time they are talking.
Genres of a single camera production:
TV Series - Limited number of episodes, a series with a fixed length.
Single Drama- Usually based on a typical issue of topic that is most likely more suitable for tv screening than in a cinema.
Period Drama - A drama that is set to capture a particular era. Can be captures with the use of costumes, sets and props.
Drama Documentary - A television film based on real life events.
Crime Drama - Focuses on the lives of criminals, quite a realist genre as some shows are based on true stories.
Soap Drama - On going episodic work of drama fiction. For example shows like Emmerdale and Coronation street.
Comedy - Combines the elements of comedy and drama, having both humorous and occasionally serious content.

DeadPool - Fight scene
After being told he had cancer in his lungs, liver and prostate, Wade Wilson was subjected to a rogue experiment that left him with speed healing powers and adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Now with his new abilities and dark sense of humour Deadpool sets out to find the man who nearly destroyed his life, Ajax.
Genre:
This film genre is Action, Comedy, Adventure and superhero because DeadPool faced many situations where he had to fight off people, the film contains a humourous style because of Deadpool's dark and twisted humour, the composition of sexual jokes, satire and an all round humourous performance. The adventure part of the film that formed the main story line was when Wade was the subject of an experiment that gave him immense healing powers. This formed the main story line as deadpool is now indestructible. Lastly the film was based on the comic book story of Deadpool, starts off as just an ordinary man who after an incident develops super human abilities and puts them into good use.
Non - Linear:
The narrative is non – linear because the film starts off with the middle of the second act, a scene involving a fight between deadpool and a bunch of bad guys In a car on the freeway. Like most films deadpool has three acts. 1) Wade finds out he has cancer, gets superhero powers and develops the alter ego of Deadpool. 2) Deadpool hunts down the man who did it to him and 3) The big climactic battle between Deadpool with his team and Ajax with his team.
Realist and Anti - realist:
The films starts off as realist because Wade Wilson is living a normal life, he meets a girl, falls in love and asks her to marry him. But things took an unexpected turn when he is diagnosed with terminal cancer. This is realist because people receive this type of new all the time so it’s a story that people can relate to and is realistic in this world.
As the film goes on it turns into anti realist as a man appears and tell Wade that he can be cured from cancer by giving him superhero powers. So Wade undergoes a series of experiments to test what his superhero abilities would be and in his case, accelerated healing, which means he is now indestructible. Wade now with the alter ego of Deadpool teams up with two other superheroes from the X men. Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus. Deadpool sets off to find the man that nearly destroyed his life so he can bring him to an end. This is all anti realist because in the real world superheroes don’t exist and in also superhuman abilities are not yet possible.

Camera:
From the scene I have chosen from deadpool, I noticed that many different camera techniques and shots were used just in this one scene. For example Long shots, Medium close ups of character's face and shoulders, medium long shot of main character's body down to their knees, over shoulder shot of the main character drawing, looking down onto the character and low angle shot looking up at character from the ground as cars drove over the top. More common shot include developing and complex shots. In this film they often used the developing shots more because of the action and following the characters on screen.
Long Shot
A view of a scene or character from a distance. Normally fitting the character's entire body in the shot.
Over Shoulder Shot
A shot of someone or something from their perspective or the camera angle from the shoulder of another person.
Low Angle
Where the camera is positioned low down looking up.
|
Behind character
Where we can see the behind view of a character. This particular shot is also a medium close up from behind.
Medium Close Up
Tightly frames a person or an object. Ideally on a person its their head and shoulders.
Slow Motion
The effect where it appears time has slowed down to create dramatic effect.
|
Medium Long Shot
The shot where we can almost see the character's whole body, from head to knees.
Freeze Frame
Stopping a film at one desired frame, usually to represent the suspension of action or time.
Birds eye viewA shot in which the camera is directly above a scene looking down onto the character or object.

Lighting:
Most of the lighting used in this particular scene was natural lighting where they rely on the light from the sun and the sky to light up the shot without the use of special lighting effects. This scene was set in the daylight which means it made it easier to use the natural lighting.
Sound:
In this particular scene we can hear and see many diegetic sound effects. For example in the beginning of the scene you can see DeadPool's MP3 player and we can hear the music that is being played. Other sound effects include, cars, motorbikes, glass breaking, punching, wheels screeching, neck breaking, the radio stations changing everytime deadpool's head was being repeatedly hit against the radio, burns to skin from the cars cigarette lighter, car crashes and the most common sound effect used in this scene was gun shots.
Editing:
The editing techniques used in this scene were slow motions, freeze frame and green screening. In this scene as the car crashes and rolls on turns over in the air, the clip starts to slow down and we see everything happening in slow motion. The shattered glass still floating in the air and the characters freeze in that point in time. When the car is rolling a character is chucked out of the car and as doing so the scene freezes and the character is left in mid air. As the car is upside down DeadPool sticks his head out of the sunroof and the rest of his surroundings Is still in freeze frame but deadpool is moving in real time. The parts that are green screened would be the scenes where the characters are freeze framed.
Scripting:
The scripting in this scene shows deadpool singing along to a song in the beginning of the scene before breaking the fourth wall by noticing the camera and talking directly to it as if it were the audience. The dialogue contains some profanity and sexual jokes and references. In this particular scene I noticed that Deadpool was the only character talking, this is probably because the other characters were not as important and didn’t need lines. As deadpool's personality is dark and twisted, a lot of his dialogue can come across as rude and sarcastic but this also gives the film it's humourous and satire style genre.
